My Daily Routine Documentary

As the researcher/filmmaker and video editor of the My Daily Routine documentary, I embarked on a project to showcase the regular lives of people around the world. The aim was to provide viewers with a glimpse into the diverse daily routines and perspectives of individuals from different countries and backgrounds. The documentary utilized a "vernacular video" format, incorporating footage filmed by the participants themselves using their camera phones and available technology in 2019.

Responsibilities:

Conceptualized and designed the documentary project, focusing on capturing the daily routines of individuals worldwide.
- Recruited twelve participants from various countries, including Venezuela, Mexico, USA, Italy, and Israel.
- Provided participants with instructions and a set of questions to guide their filming process, encouraging them to document their daily routines from morning to night.
- Edited the collected footage to create a cohesive narrative that highlighted the unique aspects of each participant's daily life.
- Incorporated appropriate music and sound design to enhance the storytelling and viewer engagement.
- Ensured a seamless flow and visual continuity throughout the documentary by organizing and arranging the footage.
- Worked with the available footage, acknowledging the "vernacular video" nature of the project and embracing its imperfections and authenticity.

Highlights:

- Produced a documentary that offered a diverse and intimate view of people's daily lives from various countries.
- Leveraged the power of vernacular videos, showcasing the personal and amateur footage captured by participants themselves.
- Overcame technical challenges in editing and post-production, working with different video qualities and audio limitations to create a cohesive and engaging final product.
- Explored the evolving nature of media production in the online environment, utilizing platforms and tools that facilitate sharing and communication.
- Encouraged viewers to develop an interest in the seemingly ordinary daily routines of others, highlighting the universal curiosity about different cultures and lives.
